So back around the time that Buffy ended, someone (and I really should have noted who when I saved this, but I didn't) made this for one of TWoP's Pixel Challenges:

My Big Fat Empty Tuesday )

This would accurately describe my feelings with both Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars gone. Seriously, Tuesday nights have been my scheduled nights for smart/sassy/kick-ass lead female characters for almost a decade, and now...no more!

Yeah, I'm totally sad. When Buffy ended I was ready for it to go. I really wanted just one more season of Veronica Mars. Even if they decided to go that silly-sounding FBI route. I was kind of desperate. Oh well. It's not like I'll ever run out of things to watch.

Hey, does anyone remember a loooong time ago when The Daily Show used to have this guy singing songs about the signs of the zodiac (with crazy ladies dancing) for the Moment of Zen? I'm pretty sure it was back when Craig Kilborn used to be on. Well, anyway, it was always awesome. And thanks to my equally-awesome YouTube surfing mother, it is now back in my life:

YOU MUST WATCH. The song about Gemini is the best, man.

I don't get it. I'm a huge freak for the Walt Disney theme parks. Huge. I've been to variations on Disney parks something like fifteen times in my life. But despite the fact that The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite rides and Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors...I'm really not that interested in seeing the second Pirates movie.

What's up with that?

Man, how cool does the lineup for the New York show of this look? Jon Stewart? Dave Eggers? David Byrne? The list goes on? It would totally be worth the forty bucks to get and see...whatever it is they're all doing. Revenge of the Book Eaters? Who cares, it's charitable and sounds awesome. And unfortunately I live about sixteen hours away from New York. I always miss all the good stuff.

Funny thing - the NYC show is hosted by John Hodgman, the PC dude from the borderline-annoying Mac and PC commercials. And seeing his name on the list there reminded me that I had one of my classic Celebrity Makeout Dreams last night...and he was the co-star. I have no idea why. That is so weird. My brain is freaking me out.

And random aside - I got my Undeclared dvds in the mail a week or so ago, and now I'm pretty much obsessed. I'm also frustrated that I didn't watch this show when it originally aired, as it was a show about college Freshmen living in a dorm airing at the same exact time that I was a college Freshman living in a dorm. How often does timing like that happen? Not very often. Alas, the show was on at the same time as Buffy, and despite the fact that I wanted to support Freaks and Geeks alums, I couldn't pass up Buffy. Man! Life before DVR was so difficult.

Almost forgot! Project Runway starts again tonight! Awesome. Although, I seriously doubt anything can top last season.

So, apparently, Michael Bay's production company is scraping together a remake of Friday the 13th set to open on October 13th this year.

This is such a stupid idea. For so many reasons. And here I rant about horror movies. )

Some (most? all?) horror movies should just be left alone. Just make sequels, 'cause that's a horror movie staple. It's like how the remake of Dawn of the Dead would have been a pretty cool zombie movie if not for the fact that it was a remake. Of Dawn of the Dead. I mean, it was so different from the original anyway, besides the whole mall thing. Why not just make a random zombie movie?

Oh yeah, because a remake is easier to market.

So. Last week I proposed this to my mom, and I still stand by it. Bravo needs to make a reality show about Daniel V., Nick, Santino, and Andrae all sharing an apartment in New York and making random fashion designs. And then once every episode, Tim Gunn shows up and takes them all to Red Lobster for dinner.

I would watch it and love every freaking second of it.

I am always up for memes that allow me to be nostalgic, so here we go:

1. Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life.
2. Have your flist (but mostly [info]dramaembodied) guess your favourite character from each item

More or less in order of when I obsessed over them. )

I definitely know I'm forgetting some things (like I almost forgot my HUGE Les Mis obsession in fifth grade), but all the big ones are there. Some things were left out intentionally, because seriously - who besides me ever played the PC game Shivers?

I saw a pretty kick-ass video on the International Music Feed channel the other day. It was one of their imports, and it had two women attacking each other with colored balls by doing stuff that looked like tai chi. Yeah, it was as weird as it sounds, but it was pretty cool. Problem is, I can't remember the name of the band! I think the song was called '17' and the band name had someone else's name in its title, but I've completely blanked on it. And Google gives me nothing useful.

International Music Feed is an awesome channel, by the way. They actually play their videos 24/7 and they're from all over the world. The "internationality" is heavily weighted on the English-speaking countries, but nevertheless, it is pretty awesome. Man, remember when MTV2 used to play videos? Now every time I put it on late at night, re-runs of Viva la Bam are on. Isn't it just great how MTV2 has turned into a repository for all of MTV's reality shows?

The new White Stripes video involves the heavenly OT4 of Jack, Meg, Conan O'Brien, and Michel Gondry. I don't like it as much as Michel Gondry's other videos, but technically it's really amazing. But that's pretty much a given when it comes to Michel Gondry videos. God, I love that man.

A long time ago (about two months back, maybe?) I mentioned looking through old boxes in the garage and finding a lot of crazy stuff from my younger days. I was going to make a post about it, but my dialup annoyed me too much to do so. Now, with blessed DSL, I can finally make that post of posts.

Just a warning - this post isn't necessarily dialup unsafe, but it's got pictures, so...just be warned.

Stuff I found in boxes that I'll never throw away. )

SO. You guys know what's awesome? Let's say you're at the midnight showing for, I don't know, the theatrical version of the fourth installment in a massively popular book series. Now, let's say, in this movie, there's a rather emotional and climactic scene. Then, directly after said scene, there's another climactic and very important scene. Now, let's say that just as this scene is about to start, we suddenly cut to a projection slide containing trivia about Elizabeth Hurley and then the theatre lights come up. Wouldn't that just be awesome?

Yeah. That totally happened at the screening of Goblet of Fire I attended. And then, once everyone finished freaking out, some brave emissaries left to get some of the theatre employees to help us. And they couldn't find anyone. Seriously, there was no one in the lobby or anything. The theatre people only figured out they had to help us when some audience members called the theatre up on their cell phones. Clearly this theatre is managed impeccably.

So, after nearly ten minutes of waiting, the movie starts up again (causing us to miss a minute or two), and the mood is completely ruined. And then, when everyone's gathered in the lobby when the movie lets out, there's still no one there to give us refunds or apologize or anything. I think they were hiding.

Anyway, enough complaining. I thought the movie was awesome. Even better than Prisoner of Azkaban, which I previously thought was the be all end all. I wasn't even bothered by any of the changes they made! I was just there for the ride, really.

One possibily spoily thing to say before I go: )

So, apparently Goblet of Fire opens tomorrow night. How did November 16th get here so quickly? Luckily I got my tickets to the midnight showing this afternoon - I had almost decided to wait until tomorrow. This was because I thought the movie opened next week. Can't believe I almost screwed that up.

I realized that if I ever wanted to dress as a Hogwarts student I have the perfect pleated skirt. So now I am very tempted to dress as Random Hufflepuff #7 tomorrow night. I'd just need the knee socks, really. Mm, knee socks. That's enough of an incentive in itself.

Quick question - I've got a huge pile of clothes I want to donate. The problem is, I don't know where would be better to take them, Salvation Army, Goodwill, or somewhere else. Anyone know where my donated clothes would do more good for society? Otherwise, I'll probably just take them to Salvation Army because it's closer and then...I'll use less gas to get there. See? That's helping society.

I am so behind on f-list stuff because of the RP that ate my brain and my time and my desire to write my NaNo. I'm still at 57 words, and I haven't even posted them for [info]dramaembodied to see. My NaNo is still shrouded in mystery to her. And to me too, I guess. Don't worry, [info]dramaembodied! I'll work on it right after I finish this post.

In other news, I went to the Lord of the Rings exhibition in Indy today! It was pretty cool except it seemed like most of the people who went to see it have never been inside a museum before. Each section of the exhibit had behind-the-scenes video playing, so there'd be huge groups of people just standing there, staring at the videos, and blocking the actual props from the movie! I don't even think most of these people even looked at the props for more than two seconds, seriously.

I didn't even care about the videos that much since I'd seen most of this stuff on the extended edition featurettes. (By the way, isn't it sad when you get to the point where you actually recognize all production crew just by their voices?) I just wanted to see the props. The dummy of dead Boromir in the boat was awesome. It looked so real in the movie, and up close it was just as awesome. And then there was Frodo's mithril vest and the Red Book and Sting and Theoden's sword and Galadriel's crown and Sam's Elvish rope and...yeah. It was pretty great. And then there was all the drooling over John Howe and Alan Lee's sketches that were up on the walls. That was much fun, except for the rude people who were always in the way, of course.

That about sums it up for this entry except this: Happy Back to the Future Day*, everyone!

*Today's November 5th and Marty went back to November 5th, 1955, and I've been "celebrating" this holiday since, like 7th grade, so please indulge me.

So apparently without my knowledge, I downloaded and burned a Sufjan Stevens cd sometime last semester. I'm listening to it now, and it's pretty good, so that was a nice surprise.

Last week I went to Sam's Club and saw that they had the older complete Monty Python dvd set for 95 dollars. I was all excited about the low price, and then I turned the corner and saw they had the brand-new set (the one that takes up less shelf space and has bonus stuff) for 96 dollars. This was obviously even more exciting, although I don't know what genius at Sam's Club pricing decided to make the two sets one dollar apart. Either mark-up the newer one or mark down the older one. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Anyway, since both of the sets are usually in the 130 dollar range every where else, I decided to screw my don't-buy-anything budget and get the newer set. It was so exciting that I'm still gushing about it now, a week later.

The idea that I can look up any (and every!) episode I want without having to dig through my three crates of vhs tapes I got off of BBC America is mind-blowing and awesome. And I finally get to see the episodes I've never seen and sketches I've only ever read! I saw Confuse-a-Cat last night! This is a very big thing for me.

The only drawback about watching Python non-stop is that last night I had a dream that Graham Chapman and John Cleese were kissing. And no, I haven't been reading any Python-slash. Ew.

Random: The RP I'm in has eaten my soul. I'm worried about what this means for my NaNo.

I still don't know what to be for Halloween! And I'm the only one! Even Mr. Jackass has a costume since his dad's suit fits again.

First off, [info]shaftymolasses tagged me for the "10 things that bring you a moment of joy" meme.
It is my duty to respond. )

I was trolling Getty Images after seeing [info]scarvesnhats' fourth day prompt of the cute guys in scarves on a fence. This lead me to making a bunch (meaning eight) Getty Images icons. I'ma gonna post them here, even though I'm not the most fantastic of icon makers. I just doubt I'm going to use them all, and I figured offering them up to the general public would be...something to do.
Marvel at the borders of varying thicknesses!. )

I'm going to write HP fic for my NaNo. This is good for a few reasons. First of all, that means I won't be working on the characters that have plagued my very existence for seven years. Holy crap, seven years? Now that's sad. Anyway, the other big reason is that I might actually finish the NaNo this time, because *gasp* I know how it ends. As well as how it middles and begins. We'll see how that goes, though. I don't have a good NaNo track record.

My mom had me help her clean out boxes in the garage that are eight to eleven years old. I've been finding more crap to take up more space because I never throw anything out lots of interesting and goofy things from my middle and elementary school years. I was going to make a big post about all the more interesting finds, but this post is already all over the place, so I'll do it tomorrow or something.

From stereogum:
Shit will be going down for Sylvester when Trapped in the Closet Chapters 1-12 drops on DVD 11/1.

Oooh, awesome. Awesome in a bad way, because I so have to buy that. Is there anyone who takes R. Kelly's opus seriously (besides R. Kelly)?

Anyway, two good things: I finally applied for a job (after graduating in May), and to celebrate my rather small accomplishment, I bought myself a paid account. I'm still trying to figure out a satisfactory layout, though. Man the stripes I have up are annoying.

So now I have more things to distract me from applying for more jobs. Um, yay?

I'm on a huge Ted Tonks/Andromeda Black kick right now. Unfortunately, the only decent fic I've been able to find about them is by [info]eudaimon, and I need more, dammit! I might have to go venturing into FF.net and FictionAlley, which I've never really done before seeing as how I survive mostly on recs.

Saw The Corpse Bride today. Apparently there was an advance screening at school on Monday (complete with Warner Bros. security that didn't let people bring in iPods), but I didn't find out about it until a day or two ago. Anyway, I saw it today, and it was pretty good. Not as good as The Nightmare Before Christmas, but pretty decent. And I finally got my "is it a musical" question answered. [edit - It is.]

The awesome thing was that it had the Harry Potter trailer, which looked even cooler on the big screen. OMG so excited, etc, etc.

Anyway, if Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Danny Elfman is your OT3, go see the movie.

Argh
I hate the stupid VCR and stupid busy Tuesday nights. My Name is Earl and The Office were set to tape on the VCR instead of the DVR because of all the other stuff that was taping, and of course something had to get screwed up and I didn't get to see/tape either of them. Maybe My Name is Earl was lame like Kitchen Confidential was, in which case I didn't miss anything.

Speaking of, none of the new shows (that I've managaed to see) this season have impressed me much. That's a shame because last season was a smorgasboard of awesome new shows. Then again, a loaded tv schedule isn't really something I need right now. So, yay?

P.S. I may or may not be working on ultra-secret fanfic. It feels good to (possibly) get that off my chest.

Maybe it's because I've been trying to put stuff off (like life) this summer, but the new fall tv season has totally taken me by surprise. The O.C. started on Thursday and was pretty meh. I'm not having high hopes for it this season, especially if they continue recycling storylines at the rate they did last season. Oh well. I'll always have my season one dvds to cling to.

I watched the premiere of the show after it, Reunion, which is about a group of six friends over the course of twenty years. I knew it would suck, especially since that guy from Life As We Know It and the girl who plays Kirsten's sister on The O.C. are in it. I had to watch it anyway, because the premise was intriguing, and as at least one person on my f-list knows, I can't pass up a show/movie about large groups of friends. Anyway, the 80s flashbacks took up most of the episode, and I don't really understand what any of the flashbacks had to do with the present-day murder mystery. I have a feeling that pretty much every episode will be like that. Despite that, I'm probably going to end up watching it until its inevitable cancellation. Like I said, I'm a sucker. I have a very high tolerance for tv shows that make my head hurt (see also: Roswell, Radio Free Roscoe, and Life As We Know It). Actually, that might not be entirely true, seeing as how I only got through about two episodes of Point Pleasant before I refused to go on any farther.

I think Desperate Housewives starts again tonight. That's cool, but it won't be nearly as fun to watch without its most interesting character. And then Tuesday brings Gilmore Girls. Now that's something to look forward to.

EDIT - So I guess DH starts next week. That's just as well; I really wasn't in the mood to watch it tonight anyway. So there.
